Bidja Estate Wedding Photography | Louise & Matt | Ourimbah NSW
Some weddings mean a little more than others.
Louise and Matt's day at Bidja Estate in Ourimbah was one of them — and not just because of the incredible images we got, or the fact that they were two of the most relaxed, roll-with-it people I've had the pleasure of photographing.
It's because I'd already photographed Matt's family once before. I shot his brother's wedding back when I was just starting out, and honestly? That day was one of the reasons I kept going. When the invitation came to cover Matt and Louise's wedding, it felt like things had come full circle in the best possible way.
The Day the Rain Arrived
The East Coast had been copping it hard. La Niña had been relentless, and on the morning of Louise and Matt's wedding, the skies made it very clear they hadn't finished yet. I'll be honest — standing outside Bidja Estate watching the rain come down, I had a moment of genuine concern about how the day was going to unfold.
But here's the thing about rain: it can't actually stop a wedding. It can move a ceremony inside, muddy up a few shoes, and give the photographer a brief existential crisis — but it cannot stop two people who are completely certain about each other.
The ceremony moved inside to the reception shed. Louise and Matt didn't flinch. Their guests didn't flinch. And once we all accepted that this was a wet day and embraced it, something shifted — the whole day relaxed into itself and became something really special.
Getting Ready
The preparations had that wonderful combination of excitement and calm that you get when a couple has their priorities right. Louise was surrounded by her people, the details were beautiful, and there was plenty of laughter from the moment I arrived.
I love the getting-ready part of a wedding day. It's where the day really starts — before the formalities, before the nerves settle, before everything becomes A Big Moment. There's something genuine and unguarded about it that photographs really well.
The Ceremony & Family Photos
The shed at Bidja Estate came into its own on a rainy day. With the ceremony moved inside, it actually felt more intimate — everyone close together, the rain on the roof providing its own kind of atmosphere. The light was soft and even, which any photographer will tell you is genuinely ideal.
After the ceremony, we grabbed family formals before heading out for the bridal party photos. This is where Louise and Matt really showed their character.
Getting a Little Muddy
Louise and Matt were completely happy to get their shoes dirty for the sake of good photos — and I love that about them. Some couples on a wet day want to stay dry and do everything undercover. These two just laughed, picked their way through the mud, and gave me everything I needed.
The grounds at Bidja Estate are beautiful even in the rain. Actually, especially in the rain — the green is richer, the light is softer, and there's a moody quality to the images that you simply can't manufacture on a sunny day. Some of my favourite shots from this gallery came directly from the conditions that had me worried earlier that morning.
If you're a couple reading this who has a rainy forecast — please don't panic. Overcast and wet days produce some of the most beautiful wedding photography. And a couple who's willing to have a laugh about it will always, always end up with better photos than one who's stressed about the weather.
The Reception
By the time the reception came around, the energy was exactly where you want it — warm, relaxed, and completely present. Speeches, dancing, the works. Louise and Matt had surrounded themselves with people who genuinely love them, and it showed in every corner of the room.
Congratulations Louise and Matt — it was an honour to be part of your day, and a full-circle moment I won't forget.
A Note on Bidja Estate & Central Coast Wedding Photography
Bidja Estate in Ourimbah is a beautiful Central Coast wedding venue — relaxed, private, and with a character that really comes through in photos. It handles a rainy day better than most, and the grounds give you plenty to work with whatever the weather.
