The Wedding Shed Pokolbin | Hayley & Mitchell | Hunter Valley NSW
The Wedding Shed in Pokolbin is one of those venues that just makes a photographer's job easy. Set within the gorgeous Hunter Valley, it has that combination of natural beauty, good light, and relaxed atmosphere that tends to produce a really strong gallery. Hayley and Mitchell's day was no exception.
I covered both the bride and groom getting ready — Hayley with her bridesmaids at one location, Mitchell and his groomsmen getting ready separately. It's always good to capture both sides of the morning. The energy is completely different, and together they tell a more complete story of how the day began.
Getting Ready
Hayley's getting ready photos had that easy, unhurried quality that makes for great candid shots. Plenty of laughter, a few quiet moments, and the kind of natural light that doesn't need any help. The details were lovely too — the dress, the flowers, all the little things that are easy to overlook on the day but photograph beautifully.
Mitchell and the groomsmen had their own thing going on elsewhere. I always enjoy shooting the guys — it tends to be a bit more relaxed, a bit more laughs, and occasionally someone's tie is on backwards until five minutes before the ceremony.
The Ceremony at The Wedding Shed
The ceremony at The Wedding Shed is held in a stunning open-air setting — it's one of the best ceremony spots in the Hunter Valley, and on Hayley and Mitchell's day the light was doing everything right. The moment Mitchell saw Hayley coming down the aisle is the kind of thing I position myself specifically to catch. You get one shot at it and it's always worth it.
After the ceremony we grabbed family formals and the full group shot before heading into the bridal party photos.
Bridal Party Shoot — and a Drone Group Shot
The Pokolbin property gives you a lot to work with for the bridal party shoot — vineyard rows, open skies, golden light. We moved around the property and found the spots that were working best on the day.
One of the highlights was pulling out the drone for the group photo. Getting the whole crowd up from above gives you a completely different perspective — the scale of the celebration, the venue laid out below, everyone looking up. It's a shot couples always love and guests are always excited by. Weather and airspace permitting, it's something I'm always happy to offer.
The Reception
The reception was held on-site, which meant the whole day had a lovely continuous energy to it — no gap, no travel, everyone just moved from ceremony to celebration. Speeches, first dance, the full evening. I kept shooting through the night, picking up the candid moments that tend to fill the back half of a gallery — the laughs during speeches, guests on the dance floor, the quiet moments between the two of them when they thought no one was watching.
Congratulations Hayley and Mitchell — a brilliant day at a brilliant venue.
A Note on Hunter Valley Wedding Photography
The Hunter Valley — and Pokolbin in particular — is one of the most popular wedding destinations in NSW, and it's easy to see why. Vineyard settings, beautiful light, and venues that know how to do a wedding properly. I shoot regularly throughout the Hunter Valley, from Pokolbin and Lovedale through to Cessnock and beyond.
If you're planning a Hunter Valley wedding and looking for a photographer, I'd love to hear from you.
